This is a very nice english rifle man's volunteer regiment cartridge box with strap which dates from the mid to late 19th century. The body is constructed of black leather which although the finish is crackling, it has survived in healthy and very nice original condition. Mounted uopn the front face is a beautiful brass insignia of the stringed bugle accentuated with thistles.
The starp also wears an equally lovely insignia marked cheshunt rifle volunteers. Boht insignias remain in uncleaned, untouched condition and have developed rich aged patinas. Overall the cartridge box body measures 7 5/8 inches across by 4 1/2 inches tall. (please note other items shown as props are not included in this auction).
