Rare early british 1796 infantry officers sword here we have a scarce early version british 1796 infantry officers sword. The hilt is gold gilt brass with over 50% gold remaining. The two oval guards are fixed, the later version had the inner guard folding to lie flat against the body after the first version was found to fray and scuff teh uniform. The grip is sheet silver, wrapped around a wood core, pressed to resemble twisted silver wire.

The blade is straight single-edged fo spadroom style. There is some light overall pitting which could be cleaned if you wish.

There is some etched designs at the ricasso, could be some on the blade but because of age it is hard to tell. No scabbard, long gone. The overall length is 38 with a 31 ½ blade.
